Air sealing comes first

Top plates, wire and pipe penetrations, bath fans and recessed can lights leak conditioned air into the attic. Insulation slows conduction but does very little about air movement. Sealing first and insulating second is the order that works.

Ventilation interaction

A well insulated attic still needs balanced intake and exhaust. Burying soffit intake under blown insulation is one of the most common installation errors we find, and it causes the ice damming the insulation was meant to prevent.

How much insulation should I have?
