What goes wrong behind siding
Most of the rot we open up is not a siding failure. It is a flashing detail at a window head, a kickout missing where a roof meets a wall, or a water-resistive barrier that was lapped the wrong way. Replacing the cladding without correcting those puts a new face on the same water path.
Fiber cement
James Hardie products hold up to Ohio freeze-thaw cycling better than most vinyl, and they carry a fire rating vinyl cannot. They are also heavier and far less forgiving of sloppy fastening and clearance. Gap at grade, gap at roof lines and correct fastener depth are not negotiable details.

Can siding be replaced in winter?
Vinyl becomes brittle in deep cold and expansion behavior changes, so we schedule around temperature. Fiber cement has more winter flexibility. We will tell you if your project should wait.
Do you replace the wrap underneath?
Yes. Siding replacement includes inspecting and correcting the water-resistive barrier and flashings. That is the part that actually keeps water out.
